I'm still riding a 30 year old steel frame road bike...
...it's still in great shape, but technology has definitely surpassed it. The old Shimano Ultegra 600 group was made well enough to hold up all these years... Actually I road it for about 7 years, then put it away when I bought my mountain bike. I occasionally pulled it out for a ride, but hate riding in traffic. It wasn't until a year or two ago that I tore it down for a "deep clean." Not sure I would have ridden 600+ miles last July on my Mountain bike. Might have gotten ~400. The only thing that really bugs me is constantly having to true the rear wheel. It was "out of round" by a horrible rebuild by the original shop I bought it from, and it probably never will be "low maintenance." Trying to decide whether to buy a new rim and have my local shop swap it over, or buy a new set of wheels. The cost is probably fairly close...lol
I think about buying a new(er) bike quite often. Not sure I'll get the use out of something like that to justify the purchase.
